Merry Christmas! Winter break, 2017 schedule, and other announcements
Dear PHCF,
Huzzah for the last day of the term! Been praying for those of you taking final exams and preparing final papers and presentations -- it's been a long and I know difficult journey, but hopefully also one that has pushed you closer to our Savior and Sustainer. In the last few days leading up to Christmas, I wanted to share a good reflection on advent! https://www.crossway.org/blog/2016/11/how-advent-teaches-us-to-wait-well/
Some items of note:
1. Winter schedule -- PHCF is not meeting formally over Christmas. But if you're looking for people to spend the holidays with, please reply to this email; we would be overjoyed to connect you with others =)
In 2017... Weekly lunch meetings will be on Thursdays (room E5037 Jan 5 and 12; room E2527 thereafter). You are welcome to join us in small group on Saturdays at 11am in Upper Fells (contact Teresa) or on Mondays at 7:30pm in the 929 Apartments (contact Mary and Esther). We also have Writing Accountability Group (i.e. a study group) on Fridays 4pm in Room W2300. [For all events, you can access our Google Calendar here!]
2. Paid internship opportunity -- the Joint Learning Initiative in Faith and Local Communities is offering three 8-week internships! Rolling application, so apply soon; ideally, interns will start in January 2017. See separate post for more details.
3. Christian Connections for International Health (CCIH) has announced its call for scholarship applications and abstract submissions to its summer conference (July 13-15, 2017 at Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus). This year's theme is Strengthening Global Health: Faith at the Center. Abstract submissions are due Jan 23. Students and professionals from developing countries may also apply for scholarships, due Feb 6. Two types of scholarships are available: the general conference scholarship for all global health interests and the Luann and Ray Martin MCH Health Scholarship for maternal/child health students and professionals only.
4. CMDA Retreat -- MSCF has invited us to join in on the annual Christian Medical and Dental Association Northeast Conference. It is Jan 13-15, 2017, in Harvey Cedars, NJ. There'll be a group going together from Hopkins; email jhsph.phcf@gmail.com if you're interested! More details here: https://cmda.org/events/detail/wc2017
Much love, and have a blessed Christmas in the name of Immanuel,
Teresa for PHCF
"The first time I walked through the noisy streets of Bethlehem and endured its smells, I gained a whole new sense of the difference between our Christmas carols, glamorizing the sweetness of the “little town of Bethlehem,” and the harsh reality of God becoming flesh and making a home among us. " -Ravi Zacharias
But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. (Gal 4:4-5)
