Dear PHCF, And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:11-12) A prayer for all of us this Monday morning: may we, like the shepherds, take the angel's words to heart, laying down our fears (and worries and stress - especially as finals and projects and papers come upon us) and trusting in this good news that Jesus has come! Tuesday lunch meeting, CCIH conference (abstract/scholarship apps), 2017 schedule, and CMDA

[Forgot to post this last week] Good morning, PHCF! A Scripture for this morning: I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. Faculty speaker at lunch tomorrow, and other announcements

Dear PHCF, Welcome back from the Thanksgiving break - hope that you are well rested and refreshed! We have now entered the season of Advent: of looking forward to the arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ. Some Christian traditions use these four weeks leading up to Christmas to remember four of the virtues Jesus brings: Hope, Love, Joy and Peace. As we anticipate his coming, may we each lean into the tension of both being still before him and working for his kingdom. In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. (Psalm 5:3) Some announcements: 1. Faculty guest at weekly PHCF meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12:15pm in Room E2133 -- Dr. Darrell Gaskin from the Department of Health, Policy, and Management will be speaking. Come, bring your lunch, and join us in fellowship! 2. Tuesday lunch meeting (Dr. Perry!), Music, and Thanksgiving

Dear PHCF, What a blustery start to the week -- phew! And if you're walking outside, I encourage you to pause a moment and be kind to some of the men and women who've been out on the streets in the cold and wind all day. A Scripture I've been mulling on: But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. (Jer 29:7) -- and a prayer for all of us to remember that God has deliberately placed us where we are, though we are citizens of his heavenly kingdom. May he continue revealing to each of us what it means to seek shalom though our attitudes, thoughts, words, and actions. Some announcements: 1) Our weekly PHCF meetin g is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12:15pm in Room E2133. Dr. Henry Perry, from the Department of International Health, will speak on “Contributions of medical missionaries and Christian organizations to the global primary health care movement.” Come, bring your lunch, an

Tuesday lunch meeting W3011, CCIH, and housing opportunities

Hi dear ones, What a gloriously crisp fall morning it is! Hope that you all have had time to be outside, reveling in the wonders that God has put into our world: leaves that change color, clouds that streak the sky white, a slight chill in the dawn. Many things for which to give thanks (and many people too!), but most of all I'm so thankful that we trust in and follow a God who is faithful: His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love. (Psalm 147: 10-11) Some announcements for this week: 1) Weekly meeting: Tuesday 11/1, 12:15pm, W3011 Our weekly PHCF lunch meeting is tomorrow Tuesday Nov 1 at 12:15 in Room W3011 in the main Bloomberg building. More information on previous conferences can be found here: http://ccih.org/ccih-annual-conference/30th-annual-conference-june-2016.html CCIH is seeking a PHCF member to serve on the conference planning committee for the upcoming 2017 summer conference. Tuesday 12:15pm W3011 lunch meeting: waiting on God

Hi everyone, Tomorrow (Tuesday) we will meet for lunch and fellowship at 12:15pm in room W3011. I was struck by this article on waiting over the weekend: http://www.desiringgod.org/articles/the-unwelcome-gift-of-waiting and thought it would be great to discuss and pray over the ways that God asks us to follow him to the place he will show us ( a la Abram in Genesis 12). And have open time for sharing and prayer. There may also be snacks! Keeping those of you who have finals this week in our prayers! (And feel free to come after biostats, too! It'll be good to celebrate with you ^_^) Much love, Teresa, for PHCF Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy a

Welcome to the website of the Public Health Christian Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health! Who we are: PHCF is a non-denominational Christian community that seeks to encourage believers to grow in their relationship with God, introduce others to Him, and inspire people to glorify God through the training they receive at the School of Public Health. What we do: Fellowship -- Walk alongside and support one another as we study and seek out God's calling for our lives. We love to spend time with each other in prayer, in writing/study accountability groups, in service, and in socials. Mentorship -- Connect with faculty, staff, and fellow students in the JHSPH community who likewise pursue faithfulness to and love for our good God and his people all around the globe. Engagement -- Stretch yourself spiritually, intellectually, and professionally by partaking in discussion, Bible study, lecture, or advocacy activities throughout the year. Email us at jhs
